What Is Xeomin and How Does It Work?

How It Works

Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA) temporarily relaxes specific facial muscles that create dynamic wrinkles. Skin creases soften while new lines form more slowly. Because dosing is targeted, your natural expressions remain intact.

Comfort & Downtime

Tiny injections with brief pinches for most patients. No formal downtime, with mild redness or small bumps for 10 to 20 minutes. Avoid heavy workouts for about 24 hours and remain upright for 4 hours.

Who It’s Best For

Dynamic wrinkles from facial expression, first-timers and maintenance patients, and select cases of masseter clenching or jawline slimming, all with an emphasis on natural-looking results, not a stiff appearance.

Common Treatment Areas

Your provider tailors dosing to your anatomy and goals. These are the areas Xeomin most commonly treats.

  • Forehead lines
  • Frown lines (glabella)
  • Crow’s feet
  • Bunny lines on the nose
  • Lip lines and lip flip
  • Chin dimpling
  • Subtle brow lift for select cases
  • Neck bands (platysma)

Xeomin vs. Botox: What’s the Difference?

Xeomin and Botox are both FDA-approved botulinum toxin type A neurotoxins that soften expression lines for roughly 3 to 4 months. The main difference is formulation: Xeomin is a “naked” injectable, meaning it contains no accessory proteins, while Botox retains a protein complex around the active toxin. In practice this means Xeomin may have a very slightly longer shelf life once mixed and, for a small number of patients, a lower theoretical risk of developing resistance over years of repeated treatment, though both are considered safe, effective, and produce comparable results for most patients.

Onset and Duration

Both typically show initial softening within 24 to 48 hours, with full effect by day 14 and results lasting 3 to 4 months. Neither has a meaningfully faster onset than the other for most patients.

Formulation

Xeomin’s “naked” formula excludes the accessory proteins found in Botox. Some providers and patients prefer this for its simplicity, though it has not been shown to change how natural the results look.

Choosing Between Them

Many patients choose based on provider recommendation, prior experience, and current pricing rather than a meaningful difference in results. Full pricing and details for Botox are on its own page, and a deeper side-by-side breakdown is available on our full Xeomin vs. Botox guide. Skin Works carries both and can walk you through the tradeoffs at a free consultation.
