IPL Laser Treatments in South Bay Los Angeles

IPL photofacial is a restoration therapy that uses intense pulsed light (IPL) to treat a variety of skin issues. Bright light penetrates the epidermis, bringing pigment cells to the surface and distributing the uneven pigmentation. The face, neck, shoulders, chest, back, arms, legs, and just about anyplace else can be treated with IPL Photofacial.

How an IPL Photofacial Works

The layers of your skin degrade over time because of age and other factors, causing it to look thin, wrinkly, coarse, and mottled. Photofacials are a gentle and safe way to treat blemishes, with long-term benefits as the skin becomes thicker and healthier.

The IPL treatment penetrates the skin’s inner layers, repairing damage and preventing future indications of aging. This involves exfoliating the top layer of skin to uncover newer cells, stimulating collagen formation to create structure, and rejuvenating the damaged skin! Your skin cells start to behave as if they were younger after just three to four photofacials per year.

When Will Results Start to Show?

A few days after the initial session, some skin discoloration and blemishes will still be visible. However, your skin should begin to feel and appear smoother.  After one to two weeks, your skin will noticeably improve in clarity and tone. Blemishes darken at first, then rise to the skin’s surface, where they fade away naturally as part of the skin’s exfoliation. Skin will feel and look tighter, and wrinkles and fine lines will gradually fade away.

What is an IPL Photofacial?

IPL stands for intense pulsed light. An IPL Photofacial is used to break up areas of pigmentation. Some examples include freckles, sun spots, liver spots, and broken capillaries.

How does an IPL Photofacial work?

The bright light creates energy that is used to cauterize or close red vessels and break up pigmentation, reducing the appearance and color of red and brown spots.

Who can be treated with an IPL Photofacial?

If you are looking to decrease the visibility of freckles, broken capillaries, liver spots, hyperpigmentation, rosacea, or other areas of hyperpigmentation, then an IPL Photofacial is for you! Both men and women enjoy clearer looking skin after treatment!

What areas can be treated?

The face, neck, chest, and arms usually have the best results; however, most areas of the body can be treated.

Is getting an IPL Photofacial safe?

For individuals with skin that is Fitzpatrick type 1-4, treatment is extremely safe and should have minimal side effects and recovery time; however, individuals with Fitzpatrick skin types 5 or 6 are not candidates for treatment. One of our skilled medical professionals will determine your skin type and let you know if you are a candidate for an IPL Photofacial.

Who is not a candidate for an IPL PhotoFacial?

Individuals who are very tan or that have darker skin tones should not get anIPL Photofacial because of the treatment targets pigment in the skin. You cannot receive an IPL Photofacial if you have an active herpes breakout or have used Accutane within the last 6 months. Those with a history of seizures are warned about the bright light that occurs at the beginning of treatment and, depending on the seizure history, possibly advised against treatment. Women that are pregnant or nursing are advised to postpone treatment, as is common with most elective procedures.

What skin tones are best for an IPL PhotoFacial?

Fair to medium skin tones tend to have the best results!

How should I prepare for my treatment?

For 3 days prior to your treatment, do not use Retinols. For 2 weeks prior to treatment, avoid prolonged sun exposure. You may be turned away if you have a recent tan, as these pigments could be targeted by the treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments depends on the level of pigmentation in the treated area. Some individuals are happy with the results after one session, but 3 sessions are usually recommended to get clearer and brighter skin.

How long does the treatment take?

Treatment typically takes between 15 and 30 minutes; however, the amount of time may vary depending upon the area or areas being treated. The arms can take as little as 15 minutes while areas on the face may take 20 to 30 minutes

What does it feel like to get an IPL Photofacial?

During the process, you may feel a warm sensation at the treatment site.

Does it hurt?

The majority of our patients can get the treatment without any numbing cream at all because the sensation is very mild and produces little to no discomfort. If you are very sensitive to pain, talk to one of our medical professionals to see what options are available.

How do I care for my skin after an IPL Photofacial?

The most important thing to remember is to moisturize and protect yourself from the sun! Avoid peeling, scratching, or using dermabrasion on the treated areas. Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and, if you must be out in the sun, wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30! Do not engage in watersports or get into a hot tub, a swimming pool, or the ocean for 1 to 2 weeks after your procedure.

What results can I expect?

You will have a clearer complexion with a more even skin tone after the pigmentation lightens!

How soon can I expect to see results?

Results are usually apparent in 1 to 2 weeks; however, some areas may take more time to become apparent.

Are results permanent?

Results are permanent; however, pigmentation can return for a variety of reasons, including sun exposure. Multiple treatment sessions may be recommended for certain clients.

Will my results look natural?

You will have a clearer complexion with a more even skin tone after the pigmentation lightens!

When can I get another IPL Photofacial?

You need to wait at least 2 to 4 weeks before getting another treatment.

Do I need time to recover?

No! You may notice the treatment area become slightly darker following treatment, which is why we recommend that treatment occur 2 to 4 weeks prior to any important event that you attend.

What are the possible side effects?

Immediately after the procedure or in 1 to 2 days, the areas of pigmentation may darken and look flaky before becoming lighter. You can cover these areas with makeup or tinted sunscreen.
