PRP & PRF
Treatments in Torrance
Platelet-based treatments for skin texture, acne and surgical scars, stretch marks, hair thinning, under-eye rejuvenation, and facial renewal using PRP and PRF prepared from your own blood.
PRP & PRF at a Glance
PRP and PRF treatments use platelet-rich concentrates prepared from a small sample of your own blood. At Skin Works Medical Spa in Torrance, we use platelet-based protocols across several very different goals: facial texture and scarring, stretch marks, early hair thinning, under-eye rejuvenation, and injectable facial renewal. The treatment is not one-size-fits-all, which is why the page separates each option clearly rather than treating PRP and PRF as interchangeable.
What Are PRP and PRF?
PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma. PRF stands for platelet-rich fibrin. Both begin with a blood draw and centrifuge processing designed to concentrate platelets from your own blood for use during the same treatment visit.
The exact cellular composition and fibrin characteristics depend on the collection and centrifugation protocol. In practical aesthetic use, PRP is commonly paired with microneedling and scalp injections, while injectable PRF is often selected when a fibrin-rich, autologous product is preferred for areas such as the under-eyes or for PRF-based facial and hair protocols.
Prepared From Your Own Blood
Both treatments are autologous, meaning the platelet concentrate comes from the patient rather than from a synthetic filler or donor product.
PRP for Skin and Hair
PRP is used in our microneedling combinations and scalp hair-restoration protocol, with the treatment method chosen according to the concern and area.
PRF for Injectable Rejuvenation and Hair
PRF is available for under-eye treatment, facial rejuvenation, and scalp hair restoration when the provider believes a PRF-based protocol fits the goal.

A consultation helps determine whether PRP, PRF, or a combination fits your goals.
One Platelet-Based Category, Several Different Goals
The value of a PRP or PRF consultation is choosing the right protocol for the actual concern. Skin resurfacing, acne scars, stretch marks, hair thinning, and under-eye hollows do not use the same treatment approach.
Texture and Acne Scars
Microneedling + PRP is a popular option for patients focused on pores, uneven texture, dullness, and atrophic acne scarring.
Stretch Marks and Body Texture
RF microneedling + PRP is available for the abdomen and thighs when the goal includes stretch marks, textural change, and skin remodeling.
Hair Restoration
PRP and PRF scalp injections are available for patients with appropriate forms of early to moderate thinning after evaluation of the pattern and treatment history.
Under-Eyes and Facial PRF
Injectable PRF offers an autologous option for gradual under-eye or facial refinement without using a synthetic dermal filler product.

PRP and PRF can be applied topically after microneedling or injected directly into the treatment area.
PRP & PRF Treatment Options
Choose the concern first, then the protocol. Skin resurfacing, hair restoration, under-eye PRF, and standalone facial PRF each use a different treatment approach.
Microneedling + PRP
Standard microneedling paired with PRP for patients focused on facial texture, pores, dullness, and atrophic acne scarring.
RF Microneedling + PRP
Combines RF microneedling with PRP for deeper skin remodeling. Available for the face, neck, chest, abdomen, and thighs.
PRP Hair Restoration
PRP injected into selected scalp areas as a non-surgical option for appropriate patients with early to moderate pattern hair thinning.
PRF Hair RestorationNew
A PRF-based scalp injection option for patients who want an autologous hair-restoration protocol using platelet-rich fibrin.
Under-Eye PRFNew
Injectable PRF for gradual refinement of under-eye hollowness, crepey texture, and a tired appearance in appropriately selected patients.
PRF Facial RejuvenationNew
Standalone injectable PRF placed in selected facial areas for patients who want an autologous rejuvenation option without adding a microneedling device treatment.
How PRP and PRF Differ
Both treatments are platelet concentrates prepared from autologous blood, but preparation methods and final product characteristics can differ. Because PRP and PRF protocols are not standardized across every system, the provider chooses the preparation and application method based on the treatment area and goal.
PRP Preparation
PRP processing concentrates platelets into plasma that can be applied or injected depending on the protocol.
PRF Preparation
PRF preparation is designed to create a platelet-rich fibrin product that can be used in injectable rejuvenation or scalp protocols.
Growth-Factor Signaling
Activated platelets release signaling proteins involved in normal wound healing and tissue repair, which is the biological basis for many aesthetic PRP and PRF applications.
Autologous Treatment
Because the concentrate is prepared from your own blood, PRP and PRF avoid introducing a synthetic volumizing product, although treatment-related risks still depend on the procedure and injection area.
PRP & PRF vs. Other Treatment Options
PRP vs. PRF
Neither is automatically better. PRP is central to our microneedling and established scalp protocols, while PRF is used for under-eye, facial, and PRF-based hair-restoration treatments. The right choice depends on the area and goal.
Microneedling + PRP vs. RF Microneedling + PRP
Standard microneedling focuses on controlled skin needling and texture remodeling. RF microneedling adds radiofrequency energy and is often selected when deeper remodeling, laxity, or more pronounced scarring is part of the goal.
Under-Eye PRF vs. Dermal Filler
Under-eye PRF uses an autologous blood-derived product and is intended for gradual refinement. Dermal filler is a different treatment designed to create more immediate structural volume. The best choice depends on anatomy, swelling tendency, prior filler history, and the degree of correction needed.
PRP/PRF Hair Restoration vs. Other Hair-Loss Treatments
Platelet-based scalp treatment can be one part of a broader hair restoration plan. The consultation should also consider the type of hair loss and whether medical, topical, oral, or other treatment options belong in the plan.

PRF’s gel-like consistency is often chosen for the thin under-eye area.
Who May Be a Good Candidate for PRP or PRF?
The strongest candidate is someone whose concern matches one of the specific protocols offered on this page and who can safely undergo a blood draw, microneedling, RF microneedling, or injection-based treatment as applicable.
- Patients with uneven facial texture, enlarged pores, or atrophic acne scars
- Patients with older surgical scars or stretch marks being considered for a combination skin-remodeling plan
- Men and women with appropriate forms of early to moderate hair thinning
- Patients interested in an autologous under-eye rejuvenation option
- Patients interested in injectable PRF facial rejuvenation without synthetic filler
- Patients able to complete the recommended treatment series and follow aftercare instructions
What We Evaluate Before Recommending PRP or PRF
Your primary concern: Texture, scars, stretch marks, hair thinning, under-eyes, and facial rejuvenation point toward different protocols.
Medical history: We review bleeding disorders, medications that affect clotting, active infection, pregnancy, recent procedures, and other factors relevant to treatment safety.
PRP vs. PRF: The provider decides which platelet preparation and application method best fits the area and treatment plan.
Combination treatment: For skin and scar concerns, we determine whether standard microneedling or RF microneedling is the better partner for PRP.
Hair-loss pattern: Scalp treatment works best when the type and stage of hair thinning are understood before beginning a series.
Under-eye anatomy: Hollowness, skin quality, fluid retention, prior filler, and the amount of structural support needed affect whether PRF, filler, or another option is the better fit.
Session planning: We set realistic expectations for the number of visits, recovery, and when the response should be reassessed.

PRP & PRF FAQs
What’s the difference between PRP and PRF?
Both are platelet-rich concentrates prepared from your own blood. PRP and PRF use different processing approaches and can have different final characteristics, but there is no single universal protocol. At Skin Works, the choice is based on the area and treatment goal.
Is it painful?
Comfort depends on the protocol. Microneedling treatments use topical numbing, while scalp, under-eye, and facial injections can involve pressure, pinching, or tenderness. Your provider reviews comfort measures before treatment.
How many sessions will I need?
Many PRP and PRF plans use a series rather than one visit. The exact number depends on whether the goal is skin texture, scarring, stretch marks, hair restoration, under-eyes, or facial rejuvenation.
What is recovery like?
Recovery depends on the treatment. Microneedling can cause temporary redness, RF microneedling may have a longer redness or swelling window, and injections can cause temporary tenderness, swelling, or bruising.
When will I see results?
PRP and PRF are gradual treatments. Skin-remodeling changes develop over weeks, while hair-restoration response is assessed over a series and varies by the type and stage of hair thinning.
Can I combine PRP or PRF with other treatments?
Yes, when appropriate. PRP is already paired with microneedling and RF microneedling in several options on this page. Hair or facial plans may also include other services when the provider believes the combination makes sense.
Is everyone a candidate?
No. Bleeding disorders, medications that affect clotting, active infection, pregnancy, certain medical conditions, or other factors may change candidacy or timing. A provider review is required.
What does PRP or PRF cost?
Pricing starts from $500 for PRF Hair Restoration. Under-Eye PRF starts from $650, Microneedling + PRP from $700, and PRP Hair Restoration from $1,500. Full starting prices and series options are listed above.

What is New Patient Pricing, and how is it different from the Series of 3 package price?
They are separate offers. New Patient Pricing gives first-time patients 10% off one eligible single-session treatment. Series of 3 pricing is 15% off the standard rate for three sessions of the same protocol. The two rates are not combined.
Is Under-Eye PRF the same as under-eye filler?
No. PRF is prepared from your own blood and is used for gradual under-eye rejuvenation. Dermal filler is a separate injectable product designed to create more immediate structural volume. The better option depends on your anatomy, skin quality, swelling tendency, prior filler history, and how much correction you want.
