Dark Hair Is a Better Laser Target Than Blonde, Red, White or Gray Hair

Laser hair reduction depends on pigment in the hair. Darker, coarser terminal hair usually provides the strongest target. Blonde, red, white and gray hair can contain too little pigment for predictable laser reduction.

Very fine facial hair also deserves careful evaluation. Visible hair is not automatically a good laser target, particularly on facial areas where treatment response can be less predictable.

Keep the Hair Root Intact Between Laser Sessions

Waxing, tweezing and threading remove the pigmented hair structure the laser needs to target. During a laser series, those methods are generally avoided and shaving is used instead according to provider instructions.

Avoid tanning and self-tanner before treatment, shave as directed and arrive with clean skin in the treatment area. Significant recent sun exposure can affect whether treatment should proceed and which settings are appropriate.
