BodySculp 1060 nm diode laser treatment for localized fat reduction. The device’s FDA-cleared indication covers the abdomen and flanks in patients with BMI 30 or less.
Laser Lipo at a Glance
The term laser lipo is often used online for several very different procedures. At Skin Works, this page refers to non-invasive BodySculp laser lipolysis, not surgical liposuction. BodySculp uses 1060 nm diode laser energy delivered through external applicators to heat subcutaneous fat. Its FDA-cleared indication is non-invasive lipolysis of the abdomen and flanks in individuals with a BMI of 30 or less.
What Is BodySculp Laser Lipo?
BodySculp is a non-invasive 1060 nm diode laser system. Four external applicators deliver heat-assisted laser energy to subcutaneous tissue without incisions. The treatment is designed to disrupt adipocyte cells for aesthetic fat reduction.
This is different from surgical liposuction, where fat is physically removed through a cannula. With BodySculp, any visible contour change develops gradually after treatment.
Rohrer Aesthetics BodySculp
The system uses four external applicators and a 1060 nm diode laser. Treatment settings and placement are selected by trained clinical staff.
No Incisions
BodySculp is applied externally, so there is no surgical incision, cannula, or anesthesia associated with liposuction surgery.
Often Planned as a Series
Some patients complete more than one session. The number and spacing of treatments are determined after examining the area and reviewing response.

Laser lipo consultations focus on treatment area selection, candidacy, and realistic contouring goals before any session begins.
When Non-Invasive Fat Reduction May Make Sense
BodySculp may be considered when the concern is a localized pocket of fat and the patient wants to avoid surgery. It is not a weight-loss treatment and it is not a substitute for liposuction when a larger or more immediate change is the goal.
Non-Surgical Approach
External applicators deliver laser energy without incisions or surgical fat removal.
Short Appointments
Clinic appointments are designed to be relatively brief, although total visit time depends on the treatment plan.
Gradual Change
This treatment is intended for gradual contouring rather than the immediate volume removal associated with surgery.
Treatment Planning
Applicator placement and the number of sessions depend on the area, anatomy, and provider assessment.

BodySculp applicators are positioned over localized fat pockets for a focused, non-surgical contouring session.
BodySculp Treatment Areas
BodySculp’s FDA-cleared indication is for non-invasive lipolysis of the abdomen and flanks in individuals with BMI 30 or less. Skin Works also lists submental/chin and arm treatments; those areas are outside the device’s cleared indication and are considered only after provider evaluation.
Abdomen and Flanks
The abdomen and flanks are within BodySculp’s FDA-cleared indication for non-invasive lipolysis in patients with BMI 30 or less.
Submental Area / Under the Chin
This is an off-label treatment area for BodySculp. A provider must evaluate the anatomy and discuss alternatives, including other double-chin treatments, before treatment is considered.
Arms
The arms are outside BodySculp’s FDA-cleared indication. Treatment is considered only after a provider evaluates the area and discusses whether another contouring option may be more appropriate.
How BodySculp Works
BodySculp is a heat-assisted diode laser system. Four applicators deliver 1060 nm laser energy through contact with the skin to subcutaneous tissue.
The device is intended to disrupt adipocyte cells for non-invasive aesthetic use. Visible contour changes, when they occur, develop gradually rather than during the appointment itself.
1060nm Diode Laser
A 1060 nm diode wavelength is delivered through external applicators.
Heat-Assisted Lipolysis
The FDA clearance describes BodySculp as a heat-assisted laser system intended to disrupt adipocyte cells.
Four Applicators
The system uses four applicators, each with a 4 × 8 cm treatment spot.
FDA-Cleared Indication
The cleared indication covers the abdomen and flanks in individuals with BMI 30 or less.

1060nm diode laser energy is delivered through secured applicators while the skin surface remains intact.
Who May Be a Candidate for BodySculp?
For the FDA-cleared abdomen and flank indication, BodySculp is intended for individuals with BMI 30 or less. A provider still needs to assess the treatment area, medical history, expectations, and whether non-invasive contouring is likely to match the desired degree of change.
- Adults with localized abdominal or flank fat who are seeking non-invasive contouring.
- Individuals with BMI 30 or less when treating within the FDA-cleared indication.
- Patients who understand that BodySculp is not a weight-loss treatment.
- Patients who prefer a non-surgical option and are comfortable with gradual change.
- Patients whose provider determines that the treatment area and medical history are appropriate.
BodySculp is not a weight-loss treatment and is not appropriate for everyone. Pregnancy, certain medical conditions, implants or devices, skin findings, and other factors may affect treatment. Your provider will review these before proceeding.

Laser lipo results develop gradually as the body clears treated fat cells over the weeks after treatment.
What We Evaluate Before Recommending BodySculp
Treatment area: We determine whether the concern is in an FDA-cleared area or would involve off-label use.
Amount and distribution of fat: Non-invasive contouring is best suited to localized fat rather than significant weight reduction.
BMI and anatomy: The cleared indication specifies BMI 30 or less for abdomen and flank treatment.
Skin quality and contour goals: Fat reduction and skin tightening are different goals, so laxity may change the treatment recommendation.
Medical history: We review conditions, medications, prior procedures, implants or devices, and other factors relevant to treatment safety.
Expected degree of change: If the desired result is beyond what non-invasive treatment can reasonably provide, we discuss other options.

When Another Treatment May Make More Sense
BodySculp Laser Lipo
May fit patients seeking gradual, non-invasive contouring of a localized fat pocket without surgical removal.
Surgical Liposuction
May be more appropriate when the goal is a larger or more immediate reduction and the patient is comfortable with surgery and recovery.
Double-Chin Treatments
For submental fullness, the provider may compare BodySculp with other non-surgical or surgical options because the chin is outside BodySculp’s FDA-cleared treatment area.
EMS Body Sculpting
EMS treatments are aimed at muscle stimulation rather than laser fat reduction. They may be discussed separately when muscle definition is part of the goal.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is BodySculp the same as surgical liposuction?
No. BodySculp is a non-invasive laser lipolysis treatment delivered through external applicators. Surgical liposuction physically removes fat through a cannula and involves a different degree of treatment and recovery.
What areas is BodySculp FDA cleared to treat?
The FDA-cleared indication is non-invasive lipolysis of the abdomen and flanks in individuals with BMI 30 or less. Treatment of the chin or arms is outside that cleared indication.
Is laser lipo a weight-loss treatment?
No. BodySculp is intended for localized aesthetic fat reduction, not overall weight loss.
How many sessions will I need?
It varies by area, anatomy, response, and the degree of change you want. Some patients plan a series, but the provider should determine the number of sessions after evaluating the area.
Is there downtime?
There is no incision or surgical recovery period. Your provider will review expected post-treatment effects and any activity guidance before you leave.
When should I expect to see a change?
BodySculp is intended to produce gradual contour change rather than an immediate surgical-style reduction. Follow-up is used to assess response over time.
Can I treat the chin or arms?
Skin Works lists these as provider-evaluated off-label treatment areas. They are not included in BodySculp’s FDA-cleared indication, so the provider should discuss that distinction and alternative options before treatment.
